Position Summary The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking a ORTSOC Security Engineer/Architect . This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The ORTSOC Security Engineer/Architect designs, tests, implements, and supervises the operation of an array of information security tools and devices on behalf ORTSOC and ORTSOC clients, performs security analysis and incident response, and fosters critical thinking and advances students' expertise and expertise through mentorship to students in the ORTSOC program.

Position tasks 40% Security Architecture and Engineering
   » Plan, describe, design, analyze, budget, and document security architecture for ORTSOC central systems and consortium client sensor and log collection systems
   » Apply network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles
   » Apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements
   » Review system security measures and recommend and implement enhancements
   » Develop project timelines and manage project implementation
   » Conduct vulnercapability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in security systems
   » Deploy and maintain ORTSOC systems
   » Determine policy (rule sets) for network security devices such as firewalls, VPNs, and other network access control devices
   » Develop and conduct onboarding/offboarding procedures for ORTSOC consortium client organizations
   » Manage ORTSOC students and other employees in ORTSOC Architecture and Engineering projects
30% Security Analysis
   » Apply techniques for detecting host and network-located intrusions
   » Interpret information collected by network tools
   » Analyze malware
   » Correlate incident data to identify specific vulnerabilities and make recommendations that enable expeditious remediation
   » Perform analysis of log files from a variety of sources to identify possible threats
   » Perform cyber defense incident triage to determine scope, urgency, and potential impact
   » Conduct forensically sound collection of images
   » Perform real-time cyber defense incident handling tasks to support deployable incident response teams
   » Manage ORTSOC students and other employees in ORTSOC Security Analysis tasks 25% Student Mentorship & Training
   » Mentor ORTSOC students in all phases of security operations - protection, monitoring, triage, incident handling & response, mitigation, reporting etc.
   » Assist in the development and maintenance of curriculum for ORTSOC significant courses
   » Enable ORTSOC centered research by sharing data, providing access to ORTSOC environment, and sharing pain points that provide opportunities for innovation
   » Sponsor and mentor UG Capstone projects related to ORTSOC
   » Help facilitate graduate student research in security operations, engineering, and architecture
   » Leverage industry connections to help students obtain internships and employment opportunities after graduation 5% Additional tasks as Assigned by manager

Minimum/Required Qualifications
   » Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Excellent writing, presenting, interpersonal and public relation expertise.
   » Proficiency with current best practices and standards in cybersecurity practice including security operations: monitoring, incident response, etc.
   » practice teaching, mentoring, and facilitating learners (although Information technology doesn't have to be in a classroom.)
   » Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
   » This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields; OR a master's degree with substantial practice in cybersecurity practice.
   » Certifications related to Security Operations/Architecture/Engineering: ISC2: CISSP or SSCP. (CISSP-ISSAP or ISSEP a plus); significant SANS GIAC series; others, such as: PNPT, OSCP, CEH, CISM or CySA+
   » A demonstrable commitment to mentoring and advising learners.
   » practice planning, implementing, and maintaining a secure applications and appliances . Familiarity with Open-Source Security Tools such as Zeek, Snort, Suricata, Elastic Search/ELK, The Hive, Nmap, Metasploit, Wireshark, OpenVAS, Autopsy.
   » practice in System Administration; vCenter/ESXi, Linux a plus.
