Requirements: The Experiment is seeking a full-time Publicity Manager to join our fast-growing independent publishing company.
Job Job responsibilities:
- Confident working independently publicizing nonfiction books and authors; primary responsibility for +/- 12 titles per season while also assisting the Executive Director of Publicity on another +/- 8 books per season, including the lead title campaigns. Backlist publicity responsibilities are split as needed. - Working closely with Executive Director of Publicity on developing creative publicity plans for each campaign - Writing press releases, pitch letters, and other promotional materials related to a book's campaign - Pitching and scheduling coverage and interviews with broadcast, print and online media - Pitching and scheduling limited author tours, both virtual and in-person, as appropriate; some participation in planning and organizing of company exhibits and festivals (such as Brooklyn Book Festival) - Working closely with marketing and sales to coordinate efforts and maximize exposure - Collaborating with digital marketing team on maintaining company social media, mainly with Twitter and some blog organization - Actively developing and maintaining relationships with media contacts
This position is an opportunity to make a major impact at a prosperous, enterprising, 13-year-old independently owned publishing company, focused on publishing editorially distinguished books that speak to broad audiences, and warrant long shelf lives, across all of our subjects.
We seek a team member who is highly detail-oriented, an unceasing initiative-taker and problem solver, extremely curious and attuned to current trends, is happy to work both independently and collaboratively, and who has superlative written and verbal communication expertise. Appropriate qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years' practice in book publicity, a nonfiction focus useful - A proven capability to generate creative angles and pitches - An capability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines - broad knowledge of the media and a familiarity with book reviewers, magazine editors, and bloggers - Proven knowledge of the digital media space, including bloggers and influencers - capability to work in a collaborative team environment - Excellent communication expertise, including exceptional writing expertise - Excellent organizational expertise and attention to detail; the capability to multitask across activities and projects with personal time-management expertise is a must - A strong interest in nonfiction publishing - Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Cision, HTML, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus
