This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Honors College head advisor develops and supervises the college's advising program. This position provides oversight to academic advisors to ensure that honors students receive timely, accurate, and effective academic advising. The head advisor will work closely with the Honors College Associate Dean to help design and implement advising strategies, especially relating to retention and completion. This position will also supervise the collecting and analysis of data that measure advising effectiveness and assist with the annual Honors College assessment report. Position tasks 50% - Head Advisor (Advising Administration) » Provide leadership abilities to the Honors College academic advisors regarding HC policies and procedures; coordinate the reporting and data requests related to advising efforts; manage advising resources on Canvas and website; supervise curriculum development for thesis courses; plan and supervise implementation of a communication plan to students each term; serve as liaison for technology projects and programs supporting advising functions and data analysis. » Organize and participate in orientation sessions as well as other admitted student events. » Provide leadership abilities and consultation in the planning of Honors College academic events and coordination with other HC staff on co-curricular events. » Represent Honors College at campus-wide academic advising and enrollment management meetings (e.g., Council of Head Advisors, Academic Advising Council, Enrollment Management/New Student Programs/Head Advisor meetings, etc.). » Serve as primary Honors College liaison with the Office of the Registrar, OSU Admissions, and Discapability Access Services. » Supervision of HC advisors and Advising Office Coordinator: » Create an environment that leverages the strengths and accomplishments of staff, promotes synergy and teamwork, and empowers practiced professionals with diverse responsibilities. » Provide mentorship, consultation, and professional development opportunities for Honors College advisors including programming and training materials. » Acts on disciplinary issues, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary. 45% - Academic Advising: » General advising responsibilities include advising students on academic requirements and procedures including but not limited to academic, life, and career goals; providing students with thesis support; evaluating and reviewing student programs of study, academic progress, and graduation audits; maintaining up-to-date information about curricular, departmental, and university policies and academic regulations; coordinating Honors College requirements with those of the students' disciplinary colleges; communicating with students about advising policies, procedures, academic status, academic plans, etc.; and participating in events for current and prospective students and their families. 5% Other tasks as assigned.
