The project focuses on the functions of extracellular matrix peptides in left ventricular remodeling post-myocardial infarction. An overview of the lab research interests can be found on the departmental website: https://physiology.ecu.edu/research/lisandra-de-castro-bras/ Job tasks The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of cardiac research; specifically, left ventricular remodeling post-myocardial infarction. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of original scientific research studies using murine models of myocardial infarction, echocardiography, cell culture, proteomics, and molecular biology to address important questions of myocardial remodeling mechanisms after injury. candidates with interdisciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. A PhD degree is required by the starting date. A strong record of lab research accomplishments is essential. Familiarity with generating animal models of myocardial infarction and heart failure is highly preferred. The prosperous candidate should be able to manage multiple detail-oriented tasks with minimal supervision, be capable of trouble-shooting and critical thinking, and be self-motivated, dedicated, and creative. The candidate will also be directly involved in executing a wide array of experiments and will be required to work independently and as part of a team. tasks include: hypothesis development, literature review, collection of pilot data, report writing, and supervising of undergraduate research students and graduate research students, superviseing data collection procedures, supervising experimental procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of research hypothesis using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training. Approximately 90% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to development and implementation of cardiac remodeling studies, and to generate, analyze, and divulge the data collected in the form of presentations and publications. The scholar will also develop and write independent and/or collaborative grant proposals. Approximately 10% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory. This position is funded for 1 year with possibility of extension to 4 years dependent on the candidate's performance.
